Six checks worth making
NI Wheels is an advertising marketplace. The sale is agreed directly between buyer and seller, so always carry out your own checks.
Confirm the seller
Ask whether the seller is the registered keeper or an authorised motor dealer. Make sure their name, address and contact details are consistent.
Inspect the vehicle
View the car in daylight at the seller’s address. Check the VIN, service history, warning lights, tyres and signs of accident damage or outstanding faults.
Check its history
Use official MOT history and vehicle-tax services. Consider a reputable paid history check for finance, insurance write-off, theft and mileage records.
Test drive properly
Only drive with permission and suitable insurance. Test steering, brakes, clutch or automatic gearbox, electronics and cold starting.
Pay securely
Never send money because of pressure, a delivery story or a link sent by the seller. Confirm bank details independently and obtain a signed receipt.
